Annual Report 2023-2024
dedicated to providing Exceptional Patient Care
A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF NURSING OFFICER This year has brought so many challenges and successes for our healthcare system. Our continual focus on the efforts we make today and our vision for our future make it a privilege to serve as Shriners Children’s chief nursing officer. I am pleased to share some of the outstanding contributions that our nursing and patient care staff members have made and continue to make in support of Shriners Children’s. I am incredibly proud of the way that we have led and supported major initiatives for our healthcare system, particularly our transition to the Epic electronic medical records system. Going live last year with phase 1, outpatient care, was a major undertaking, and our team’s efforts were integral in ensuring it went as smoothly as possible, while not just maintaining but also improving the high-quality patient care our healthcare system is known for. Now we are deeply involved with phase 2, bringing the technology to inpatient areas, as well. A big focus for us continues to be workforce development. We have stabilized the nursing workforce and are working with each Shriners Children's location to take steps to ensure we remain the employer of choice for nurses and patient care services team members. It’s not enough to attract top talent, however. We want our nurses and patient care services team members to stay with us, so retention efforts remain an important focus. In order to leverage our resources and expertise as a healthcare system, we are continuing to develop our nursing market strategy. We have promoted market nursing leaders in almost every market. Our market nursing leaders support and communicate our nursing system priorities and goals.
All of this and more is in service of the care of the child. Our whole focus is on providing exceptional patient outcomes, and all the work we do reflects that. I want to thank each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication to our patients and to each other. It’s a privilege for me to be a part of this outstanding team. Sincerely, Beverly A. Bokovitz, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN Chief Nursing Officer Shriners Children’s “I am incredibly proud of the way that we have led and supported major initiatives for our healthcare system.”
