ON-SITE SCHOOL Shriners Children’s Portland is complete with a school through a partnership with Multnomah Education Service District’s Hospital School Program. The hospital school program is committed to serving as a bridge between home, hospital and school by providing patients with a flexible, motivational, educational experience that empowers them to take control of their academic future despite the challenges that accompany their diagnoses and treatments. Individualized instruction is available to patients K-12 who are staying onsite for more than a few days and the instructors work directly with each child’s teacher to deliver a continuation of education as they transition to the hospital and return to their home schools. Patients often thrive in the familiar routine of school and the opportunity to experience educational growth through individualized instruction, which reduces anxiety and adds value to the hospital stay.
