A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

higher. Orthopaedic surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery and, to a lesser extent, burn surgery, have transitioned to the majority being outpatient rather than inpatient surgeries. A physicians group would allow our Shriners physicians to move seamlessly within inpatient and inpatient, outpatient and telehealth settings. I am excited to move forward with this concept. I am optimistic about the upcoming year and committed to the mission and working within our “new normal” at Shriners Hospitals for Children.

“We aim to continue providing our patients the highest quality of care, demonstrate this excellent quality and then drive the quality higher.”

Telehealth revolutionized the way we care for our patients. After a quick rollout in the midst of the pandemic, we are converting to a state-of-the- art telehealth platform. We now have in place an extraordinary telehealth leader who will direct this effort. Telehealth allows us to see patients in their homes, which is embraced by our patients and their families. In terms of our physicians, I remain committed to recruiting and retaining the best, with a laser focus on providing the highest quality care. We are moving toward planning a Shriners physician group focused on quality. We aim to continue providing our patients the highest quality of care, demonstrate this excellent quality and then drive the quality

Sincerely,

Fran Farley, M.D. Chief Medical Officer Shriners Hospitals for Children

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve this amazing health care system as chief medical officer. I assumed this role and responsibility on Aug. 31, 2020. I want to acknowledge and thank all the leadership of this great organization – the executive team, the medical affairs department, the chiefs of staff and the administrators, the members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors, and the members of the boards of governors for welcoming me with such warmth and enthusiasm. The year 2020 will always be known as the year of the pandemic and we need to stop and honor all those we have lost, support those who struggle with aftereffects of COVID-19 and embrace the positive changes made to our health system during this time.
