A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN OF f BOARD OF TRUSTEES
continuing to focus on our mission and put our patients first. I am
Dear Fellow Nobles and Friends,
I am pleased to have this opportunity to thank you for your trust, and for the opportunity to serve you again as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The year 2020, and on into 2021, will likely be remembered as one of the most difficult periods our world has experienced in a long time. Still, despite the restrictions and challenges, our nobles and our health care staff have done incredible work, reaching out (using proper guidelines) to provide comfort, supporting first responders, sewing countless masks, and continuing to care for our patients and families. Every staff member and volunteer deserves our heartfelt appreciation for their tremendous teamwork – pulling together, finding solutions and
very proud of everyone associated with Shriners Hospitals for Children, and their commitment and efforts during this difficult time. CHANGING AND ADAPTING TO MEET EXPECTATIONS Despite the pandemic, we continue the work to streamline and update our health care system and care delivery models in order to be in the strongest position possible to provide our unique brand of compassionate care to the world’s children for the next hundred years. In response to the fact that the majority of pediatric medical procedures are now performed in an outpatient setting, we continue to modify our hospitals, where appropriate, making them outpatient centers. We are also working hard to provide care more efficiently and conveniently for our patients and families, especially closer to their homes. And we continue to strive to reach as many kids as possible who need our special brand of life- changing, compassionate care – wherever they may live. Our locations in Pasadena, Twin Cities, Erie, Lexington and Tampa continue to function successfully as various forms
of the outpatient care model, with necessary inpatient care provided by a nearby affiliated hospital. Another care delivery model we have adopted is the “hospital within a hospital” format. In February, our Cincinnati hospital was relocated to Dayton Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. This change allows us to provide needed burn care and other services in a more appropriate, efficiently sized space, while surpassing current medical standards for exceptional care. We are also consolidating facilities, when appropriate. In January, we completed the consolidation of our Galveston and Houston locations into one comprehensive facility in Galveston – offering pediatric orthopaedic, burn, and cleft lip and palate care. We expect the new facility to become a regional leader in sub-specialty pediatrics. As we work together to determine the best care model for our different locations, our primary emphasis is always on what will best meet the needs of our patients. We also review the markets, demographics, needs and strengths of each of our locations.
FUN e FELLOWSHIP
