Our donors are amazing, generous people. We would like to introduce you to a couple of them: Mr. Mitchell Shriners Hospitals for Children — Portland received an unexpected gift from a 96-year-old retired welder, Duke Mitchell. He had seen Shriners Hospitals’ direct response television spots and, after working with the hospital’s donor relations office, decided to give $500,000 to benefit the location’s patient care efforts. “I think this is the greatest investment I’ve made in my life,” Mitchell said. He added that, prior to his wife’s passing, they had spoken quite a bit about giving their money to an organization that would use it for good. Mitchell’s generosity was recognized with a ceremony and the placement of a plaque at the hospital.
