Sincerely, Marc Lalande, Ph.D. Vice President, Research Programs Shriners Children’s

Shriners Children’s uses clinical and scientific research to understand the complex conditions we treat, evaluate the efficacy of clinical practices and enable the discovery of new and improved treatments for children all over the world. The Research Programs department at Shriners Children’s has a long history of supporting talented basic and clinician scientists who make discoveries that ultimately change lives. At Shriners Children’s, research is part of our mission. The research department provides oversight and strategic direction for research activities. We aim to create tools, establish partnerships, and enhance our international clinical research profile and reputation, connecting our research programs to particular clinical areas. A major focus is to strategically align our research programs with the clinical areas of focus and strength of Shriners Children’s. By identifying and prioritizing research areas that are directly relevant to the conditions treated by our healthcare system, we aim to maximize the impact of our research efforts on the care of our patients. We collaborate with clinical teams to identify research gaps, develop research strategies and implement projects that address our patients’ specific needs. “Our department’s strategic mission is rooted in our dedication to improving the quality of life for all children, and most especially those we care for at Shriners Children’s.” 56
