The medical informatics team, which supports medical staff in areas related to the electronic medical record and serves as a resource that understands clinical workflow as it relates to revenue, compliance, and patient care, has also played a critical role in the Epic transition. Some of their phase 1 successes include: » Successfully supporting 18 sites as they went live with Epic ambulatory — being onsite during go-lives, testing, educating and documenting workflows, resolving issues. » Identifying clinical managers and deploying clinical transformation specialists across sites, providing education regarding the chart closing process, identifying errors in the use of Epic and assisting with workflow and roles. » A ccomplishing 30% activation rate for MyChart at all sites, following go-live. » Implementing two-factor authentication to support Epic mobile applications. Now the phase 2 initiative to bring Epic to the inpatient areas is in full swing, and enthusiasm for a fully integrated system is building. With 38 phase 2 workgroups comprising over 280 participants across the system working tirelessly toward go-live in April 2025, there is hard work, engagement and excitement at every location. Bokovitz is looking forward to including Epic as our partner in providing the highest level of care for all patient care services. “Our move to a consolidated electronic medical record allows all of our clinicians to tap into a wealth of knowledge with one of the largest healthcare databases in the world,” she said “With Epic, we improve the quality of care, and we improve the relationship between the patient and the nurses. Having a customized plan of care is very much key to the care we deliver at Shriners Children’s.”

Shriners Children’s Mexico had a huge accomplishment last year. For the first time in the hospital’s history, they began using an electronic medical record system, called HarmoniMD – an innovative hospital management software system. This has been a big transition for the workforce, who have embraced the change from paper records to digital ones. The staff is engaged with optimizing the tools and learning about the capabilities – all in support of a streamlined records system that enhances the level of care for patients and families in their unique location.
