In 2009, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) partnered with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to produce The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, which set a vision for nursing in 2020. Beginning January 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children created a special BSN 2020 tuition reimbursement program to increase the percentage of direct care nurses with a Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in nursing from 67% to the recommended 80%. We are proud to say we accomplished that objective and expect to exceed 80% when the Special BSN 2020 program concludes at the end of this fiscal year.
