The donor relations staff raises funds that help fuel the mission and vision of Shriners Hospitals for Children. The staff at both headquarters and our health care locations collaborates on fundraising strategies and campaigns that cultivate new donors and help deepen the commitment of current donors. Staff maintains and develops relationships with supporters through a number of different engagement and giving opportunities that align with our donors’ interests. From direct mail to major gifts, online giving, special events and Corporate Partnerships, the donor relations staff works to involve donors at every level to expand their philanthropic interest in our mission. This past year significantly changed the way we work and pushed us to navigate new fundraising strategies while adapting to new urgencies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the donor relations staff quickly pivoted to ensure minimal disruptions in the day-to-day activities for engaging donors. We quickly moved from face- to-face visits to phone calls and from in-person Proud Supporter community fundraising events to virtual events and peer-to-peer fundraising. We worked to involve our Corporate Partners with new engagement opportunities and expanded our Matching Gifts program for employees to double their impact with the support of their employer. In 2020, more than 1.4 million incredible donors gave a total of more than $470 million in support of the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children. Our donors allow us to provide the most amazing care anywhere to children around the world with orthopaedic conditions, burn injuries, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. The work of the donor relations staff is essential to the future of our health care system. Both headquarters and local departments create, strengthen and sustain lasting relationships with our donors to maximize Shriners Hospitals’ ability to meet our patients’ immediate needs and the long-term

issued stay-at-home orders. Through interactive storytelling by our patients and new virtual activities, such as our first-ever national telethon and the Alec Presents series, supporters were reminded how grateful we are for their generosity and their continued desire to raise funds and awareness within their communities. Donors were also made aware that our patient needs had not changed – but had now increased due to new pandemic protocols – and their support was just as valuable now as it had ever been. We encouraged

donors to move events to our online fundraising platform and, with the help of our digital fundraising team, provided new ideas to take their event from in-person to online.
