BEST CHILDREN’S HOSPITALS In the most recent U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals survey, Shriners Hospitals for Children received these rankings: Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie (together with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh) is ranked 18th in pediatric orthopaedics. Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center — Lexington (along with Kentucky Children’s Hospital) is ranked 40th in pediatric orthopaedics. Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California is ranked 33rd in pediatric orthopaedics, and 36th in pediatric urology. Both positions are shared with UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Shriners Hospitals for Children — Portland (together with Oregon Health & Science University) is ranked 44th in pediatric orthopaedics.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City

(combined with Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital, University of Utah) is ranked 24th in pediatric orthopaedics.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — St. Louis (along with St. Louis Children’s

Hospital — Washington University) is ranked sixth in pediatric orthopaedics. The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News & World Report’s top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in 10 specialties. Rankings are based on a combination of clinical data and the reputations of pediatric specialists. O THER AWA R D S Michelle Welborn, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Portland, and Steven Hwang, M.D., neurosurgeon at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia, were awarded traveling fellowships from the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). Previously, Dr. Welborn had received the 2018 Edgar G. Dawson visiting fellowship, also awarded by the SRS. Dr. Hwang has previously completed a pediatric spine fellowship at our Philadelphia hospital and a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital. This latest award from the SRS sponsors three fellows to visit spinal deformity centers in different European and Asian regions with a goal of exchanging information on a global level. Traveling fellows serve as ambassadors for the SRS. Dr. Welborn is the second woman to be named as a North American traveling fellow in the 50-year history of SRS.
