A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

center. In January, we completed the consolidation of our Galveston and Houston locations into one comprehensive facility in Galveston offering pediatric orthopaedic, burn, and cleft lip and palate care. We expect the new facility to become a regional leader in sub- specialty pediatrics. In February, our Cincinnati hospital was relocated to Dayton Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. This change to a hospital-within-a-hospital model will make it possible for us to provide needed burn care and other services in an appropriate size and space. The new location will also allow Shriners Hospitals to maintain its southwest Ohio presence with a surgical facility designed to exceed today’s medical standards for exceptional care. Additionally, the hospital-within- a-hospital model will surround our facility with all the pediatric sub- specialties under one roof. These were all huge, complicated undertakings, and they were completed in a timely manner, despite the pressures and threat of the pandemic. We would not have achieved these milestones without the incredible teamwork of everyone involved. The strength, focus, dedication and commitment of Shriners Hospitals for Children, including all of its employees, volunteers and our patients and families, inspires me every day. Seeing all of our efforts to overcome the pandemic during this past year is the reason I am confident we will continue to thrive in the future regardless of the challenges we may face as a health care system. Thank you for all that you do every day to fulfill our mission of transforming lives.

Zoom calls to hosting conferences to creating sophisticated interactive programs and presentations. » When travel restrictions and other regulations would prevent our patients from receiving needed care at one of our facilities, several departments worked together to initiate and implement a telehealth effort that allows patients to be seen in their homes, connecting with their health care professional via their personal electronic devices. In the period fromMarch 23, 2020 to the end of the year, there were 64,072 patient visits via telehealth, a number that clearly indicates the true potential of telehealth. We will continue to elevate and refine this program, which will continue to provide convenience and quality care to our patients and families in more typical times. » Our physicians and clinical staff also came together in support of the telehealth program, helping to ensure its success. In addition, they provided guidance and knowledge regarding implementation of COVID-19 protocols so we could safely reopen our facilities and re- establish our outreach efforts. These few examples barely scratch the surface of illustrating the countless instances of collaboration, amazing teamwork and the tremendous dedication of our truly incredible staff. Although there are now vaccines, COVID-19 still presents challenges that we are dealing with as we continue to safely reopen and establish international outreach for our patients and families worldwide. Teamwork is also what made it possible for us to continue our efforts to revamp our health care locations, making them more appropriate for today’s expectations and needs. Even with a pandemic, we were able to continue shaping our future vision for our system by ensuring locations become more accessible to more families worldwide. We also continued to make them more efficient and stronger. In August 2020, our Twin Cities facility reopened in a new building as an outpatient

There is no question that the dominant story of 2020, and continuing into 2021, is the COVID-19 pandemic. This global virus has affected everyone in the world, and every health care organization and provider, in some way. Shriners Hospitals for Children, its staff, patients and their families, as well as our volunteers, are no exception. However, because of our commitment to our mission, and to one another, Shriners Hospitals for Children was able to continue to transform the lives of children worldwide. Our teamwork was demonstrated at every level within our organization, from the Joint Boards to the staff members of each department at every one of our health care locations. Likewise, our dedication to the children and families we serve was demonstrated throughout all levels of our organization by the innovative ways we modified our health care delivery to overcoming the constraints and challenges of the pandemic. This innovative spirit and dedication is what defines us, and what made last year a success. Here are just a few new and different ways we worked together: » Because of the threat of being in close proximity to one another, we learned to work together virtually – from participating in relatively simple

Sincerely,

John P. McCabe Executive Vice President Shriners Hospitals for Children
