His foundation, Dan Pastorini Charity, assists in raising funds for and awareness of several charities, including Be An Angel, which he has been involved with for 30 years. He has served as chairman of the board of Be An Angel Foundation, which helps profoundly deaf children, or children with multiple disabilities, by helping them obtain the equipment and care they need to improve their quality of life. Pastorini is grateful for his East-West Shrine Bowl experience, and for receiving this distinction. “I would never have been selected as the third pick in the first round of the NFL draft if it weren’t for the opportunity to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl,” he said. “I’m truly honored to be in this year’s Hall of Fame.” The Pat Tillman Award, presented to the player who best exemplified intelligence, sportsmanship and service, was given to Florida International University quarterback James Morgan. Morgan started his Shrine Bowl experience with a visit to Shriners Healthcare for Children — Florida, where he played with patients on the basketball court,
taking photos and signing autographs. He spent the week practicing with his East squad teammates. “This entire week spending time with the children of Shriners Hospitals and seeing their attitudes toward life has been an incredible and eye-opening experience, extremely inspirational, and something that will have a lasting impact on me for a long time,” said Morgan. Baylor captured tournament champion honors with a perfect 3-0 record. More than 40,000 fans attended the nine-game tournament, in which Baylor was the only undefeated team. Missouri and Oklahoma both finished 2-1, Texas and LSU both finished 1-2, while Arkansas finished 0-3. Our National Patient Ambassadors, Madelyn and Cristian, were on hand to share their stories of hope and healing, and so was national spokesman Alec, who is improving his sportscasting skills with each event he attends. In December 2015, the Astros Foundation announced a multi-year naming rights agreement for the event with Shriners Hospitals for Children. The 2020 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic featured all Big 12 and SEC matchups over the three-day weekend of Feb. 28-March 1. Participating programs were Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas representing the Big 12, and Arkansas, LSU and Missouri representing the SEC.
